In a bizarre collaboration that breaks traditional predictions, the game developer has announced an virtual collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event operates from November 25 through December 22, providing complimentary bonus story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Adventure Disclosed

According to the official statement, "A mysterious encounter leads protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a new mission, where rumors of prohibited practices and terrifying metamorphoses echo through the darkness." The storyline features a "oddly attired woman named Ada" who assigns the pair with journeying into the Crystalline Cavern—a important location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her companion from a secret group.

The adventure focuses on "bizarre tests and a fearsome enemy" and is available to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Familiar Places and Metamorphoses

The teaser showcases the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This important location was formerly where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through ages. The preview concludes with a dramatic sequence showing a character, likely the prisoner, morphing into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.

Exclusive Rewards and Extra Content

Players who finish the adventure will receive an special katana alongside multiple artifacts secreted throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also includes in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-inspired attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa outfit for Naoe
• Exclusive weapons
• Survey Corps mount

Third Free Story Update

This release also introduces the game's latest free story addition, titled "The Enigma." This humorous adventure teams Naoe and Yasuke as they trade signature abilities: Naoe debuts a dramatic variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-lethal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Mystery" also features a original environmental puzzle that may eventually shed light on some unanswered questions from the main storyline.

This marks hardly the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with popular anime series. The series previously featured a 2020 cross-promotional story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla unofficially included a quest that clearly referenced the famous series One-Punch Man.
