PSG Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the final moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
