Tehran States It Could Rejoin American Atomic Talks provided that Approached with 'Dignity' and 'Respect'
Tehran is willing to restart atomic negotiations with Washington provided that it is approached with "dignity" and "honor", Iran's foreign minister has declared.
The Iranian diplomat declared solely negotiations produced results, and disclosed new appeals had come from go-betweens to resume talks with the American leadership. He asserted Iran did not have unreported enrichment locations, and Iran could not yet allow the global atomic watchdog to inspect struck enrichment centers for security reasons.
Navigating a Challenging Course
Araghchi is navigating a complex course since Iran wishes not to be perceived to be acting from a position of disadvantage, and he insisted repeatedly that Iran had come out more resilient militarily and mentally from the joint assault on its nuclear sites in June.
He was talking at a defense forum in Tehran where he restated that Iran had "an inalienable right to process nuclear material within its borders that it will perpetually retain" – the key factor of the impasse in the prior discussions.
Prior Talks Suddenly Terminated
The prior phases of discussions between the US and Iran were brought to an abrupt and acrimonious conclusion on 12 June when the Israeli government, with US support, targeted Iranian nuclear sites in a 12-day war that culminated with the American leader asserting the sites had been eliminated. Afterward, EU nations exercised their privilege to reimpose global restrictions, but Iran insists they have not had a substantial consequence.
Ideal Resolution Proposed
Iran's diplomats claimed they felt they had achieved a "ideal resolution" to the nuclear fuel concern in previous talks, when it was agreed an domestic cooperative with Washington's engagement could refine atomic fuel. The two nations would have been able to claim victory since home-based processing would have persisted and the US could be confident that Iran's nuclear programme was solely for peaceful purposes.
It had not been decided in the negotiations that Washington's technical specialists could function on Iranian soil, but that was a reasonable assumption of the partnership suggestion. Officials asserted three times they had reached agreement with Trump's special envoy the American negotiator only for the deal to fall apart due to "opponents in the US".
Present Position
Iranian officials declared the consortium offer was now no longer available, but it seems very probable the proposal could be resurrected in various formats if discussions restart.
Trump in recent days claimed he had been getting signals that Iran desired to resume discussions, but in private Iran's diplomats say they are not yet receiving clear proposals from Washington either directly or from important Middle Eastern intermediaries, such as Qatar, the Egyptian leadership, the Omani authorities and Saudi Arabia. The Iran's state department has been charged of passivity in the wake of the US president's straightforward manner, but Iran asserts diplomacy is not part of a spectacle.
Negotiating Position
In his remarks to the gathering, designed to depict the US as a dominant force that abuses the notion of worldwide standards, the foreign minister said the two-week conflict showed the dispute could not be settled by combat operations. He stated the attacks commenced with a American requirement for an unconditional Iranian surrender and ended with an complete request for a ceasefire.
Iran is certain the initial Israeli attacks were mounted with complete American awareness and cooperation, making trust difficult to restore.
Diplomacy Remains the Ultimate Solution
Araghchi declared: "Tehran was not the one that had deserted negotiations; it was the United States and the western countries that had always tried to dictate their demands during the negotiations. Dialogue can still be active and stays the primary answer to resolve disagreements, but its criteria, rules and tenets must be respected."
"In case they speak to the citizens of Tehran with the language of dignity and honor, they will obtain a response in the equivalent tone."
Restoration and Rebuilding
In what is characterized by Iran's diplomats as the conflict of repair and rebuilding, the foreign minister said he was assured Iran's military capacities "have significantly improved than before 13 or 14 June of this year. All our capabilities have been rebuilt. We acquired multiple understandings from this war; we have come to know our internal vulnerabilities and the shortcomings of the enemy."
He continued: "We successfully passed this conflict. Our atomic expertise, which they aimed to eliminate, stays intact. The installations and machinery, if damaged, will be rebuilt; what is crucial is the determination of the Iranian people and then the social solidarity that they aimed at, but did not succeed to break. The nation of Iran have developed more resilient, more united, and more backing of the leadership and the nation in the wake of this attack."
