The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel arrives on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
Season 1 introduces a large cast of personalities residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds accompanied by songs about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The community's expectations for season 2 differ greatly, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner stated recently. "However I feel like me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast season 2 moves, and how much of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some incredible disclosures, some fascinating origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a few fans make a prediction grid about the new season," she mentions. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
